GAMMAS PLAN FIRST SOCIAL

Gammas and dates traveled to the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona last Saturday for their first social of the year.

Plans are underway for entertainment at the All School Picnic.

Diane Kopan, president for 1959, announced that many plans are under way for the coming semester.

Intramural manager, Donna Tolbert, reported that an enthusiastic team has been turning out for the volleyball games on Monday evenings.

GAMMAS TO HOST ISLAND FESTIVITIES

Sigma Pi Gamma will hold a Hawaiian style rush party at alumni Barbara Beaird's home tonight. Rushees will be treated by the Hawaiian atmosphere, food, and entertainment.

After rushing, Gammas plan to have a formal installation of their new members.

The Gammas will have their annual rummage sale the last part of next month.

HAWAIIAN THEME AT GAMMA RUSH

Gammas entertained rushees at the Los Angeles home of alumna Barbara Beaird last Friday.

A Hawaiian theme was followed with various exotic island foods served.

Rushees attending were: Nancy Greenbaum, Rosalie Rook, Donna Cook, Chris Hertel, Charlotte Svbobda, Jan Nickerson, Carolanne Bell, Bettie Brice, Gay Riggan and Barbara Peters.

GAMMA PLEDGES TO ATTEND FORMAL INSTALLATION TONIGHT

After a busy week of pledge activities, the new Sigma Pi Gamma members will be officially welcomed into the club in a formal installation tonight. They are Jan Nickerson, Charlotte Svoboda, and Carolanne Bell. Taking place in the Alumni House, the ceremony will be carried out in candlelight.

At the last club meeting congratulations were extended to those nominated for homecoming princesses, including Ellen Boros, Joan McGee, Beverly Muller and Norma Wade.

Honored for receiving an invitation to join Phi Beta was Norma Wade. She is now pledging the national music and speech fraternity. Diane Kopan and Ellen Boros were complimented for being new members of Alpha Gammas.

The float committee presented its outline and plans are now under way for the Gamma entry.

NEW GAMMAS ARE INDUCTED

Last Friday night Gammas formally initiated new members Jan Nickerson, Charlotte Svoboda and Carolanne Bell in a candlelight ceremony in the Alumni House. After refreshments were served, pictures were taken of the presentation.

At the last meeting Bev Muller was honored for being selected Homecoming Princess.

Plans for the Fifth Quarter show and the Christmas banquet were discussed and last minute details on the homecoming float were taken care of. The Gamma entry tomorrow night will be called "Makin' Whoopee."

GAMMAS GAIN 1ST IN FLOAT RACE

Sigma Pi Gamma members were seen in full force at Sentinel Field last Saturday working on their float, "Makin' Whoopee." Efforts were rewarded at the Fifth Quarter after the game when Gamma's won the Women's division trophy in the float competition. Diane Kopan, president, was homecoming committee chairman.

Plans for a Thanksgiving social are underway. Carolanne Bell's Monrovia home is the site tentatively set for the "hen" social. The traditional dinner is held for the girls before going home for Thanksgiving holidays.

ELFORD HONORED AT GAMMA SHOWER

Gamma members gathered at the Home Economics Building to honor Llona Elford with a wedding shower last Sunday afternoon. Miss Elford is planning a December wedding.

At the last meeting Jan Nickerson announced her recent pinning to Bill Hemphill. Bill is a sophomore and a member of Sigma Tau Sigma.

The December 1 Fifth Quarter will be a co-operative effort of the Sub-T's and Gammas. Committee chairman for this event are Llona Elford, Bill Czuleger and Don Aston.

Linda Leslie will be in charge of the decorations for the Christmas Banquet to be held December 4, at the La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes Estates.

Gammas will be selling tickets to the Wizard of Oz.

LA VENTA INN HOSTS GAMMA WINTER SOCIAL

The Gamma Christmas Banquet was held Friday night at the La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes.

Entertainment, following the Christmas theme, was provided by the new members, Charlotte Svoboda, Jan Nickerson and Carolanne Bell.

Members and dates attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Sid VanderWeide, Diane Kopan and Sid Shue, Carol Huff and Bob Waldron, Joan McGee and Pat Hale, Linda Leslie and John Katch, Carolanne Bell and Bill Czuleger, Susan Huff and Terry Giboney.

Others attending were: Donna Miller and Dave Beavers, Rosella Koontz and Randy Taylor, Beverly Muller and Noel Smith, Charlotte Svoboda and Bob Collins, Donna Tolbert and Otis Falls, Sherrill Thatcher and Paul Colony, Ellen Boros and Jack Brandt, and Jan Nickerson and Bill Hemphill.

Last night Christmas gifts were exchanged at the annual Christmas party. Plans were also made for the rummage sale to be held at the beginning of the year.

GAMMAS PLAN ON ATTENDING POPULAR PLAY

Sigma Pi Gamma held their annual rummage sale Saturday, January 9, in downtown Los Angeles. Profits from this sale will be used during rushing and for future activities.

"The Drunkard" in Long Beach, where the play has just reopened, will be the site of the Gamma social Saturday, January 16.

The next activity on the agenda will be the snow party to be held in February.

GAMMA RUSH SOCIAL TONIGHT AT MILLER'S

The first Gamma rush social will be held this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Sierra Madre home of Donna Miller. Entertainment, refreshments and music will be the order of the evening for rushees.

Plans for the second rush party are underway and will be held next Saturday.

Gammas Ellen Boros, Diane Kopan and Carol Huff were selected among ten of the best dressed women at Pepperdine.

Members and dates spent a leisurely week end at the San Moritz club in Crestline last week end. A steak dinner was served Friday night and was prepared by the Gammas with the help of Sid Shue.

Diane Kopan and Sid Shue, Norma Wade and Bill Greinke, Ellen Boros and Jack Brandt, Donna Miller and Dave Beavers, Jan Nickerson and Morris Hawkins, Rosella Koontz, Charlotte Svoboda, and Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McWhorter were a few who attended the week end outing.

SIGMA PI GAMMA RUSHEES ENJOY RECORD PARTY FRIDAY

Sigma Pi Gamma's first rush party was held last Friday night at the Sierra Madre home of Donna Miller.

The evening's entertainment started with a game, to help acquaint the rushees with the members. This was followed by professional entertainment, which was supplied by a quartet called "The Kentwoods." The Kentwoods sang a series of popular, spiritual and ballad songs.

Rushees who attended the party were: Janalee Arnold, Jean Feole, Sharon Fitzpatrick, Kay Freivogel, Rhonda Glover, Lynnette Graves, Sylvia Hickman, Janalee Howell, Joanne McPeak, Linda Pearson, Jackie Pepperdine, Jean Ray, Vina Roberts, Dianne Schroeder, Sharon Smith, Mary Wilhite, Robyn Winn, Carolyn Christopher, Clora Ann Click, Yvonne Gilliam, Joyce Robertson, Anne Marbury and Jolene Creed.

Gamma's second rush party will be Saturday morning at the home of Pat Hale in Redondo Beach. Breakfast will be served along with games and entertainment being supplied by the members.

Gammas have chosen "Italy" as their country for the Spring Sing in April. Donna Tolbert and Susan Huff are the co-chairmen and will plan and lead the club in the event.

SIGMA PI GAMMA HOSTS 13 RUSHEES

Gammas hosted thirteen rushees at an early morning breakfast last Saturday. Everyone enjoyed a variety of games including ping-pong, croquet, egg scrambling and fuse hunting according to Diane Kopan, president of the organization.

Rushees attending were Shari Brittain, Darlene Adam, Nelia Butler, Linda Carrico, Jolene Creed, Patti Downs, Jean Feole, Sharon Fitzpatrick, Linda Pearson, Dianne Schroeder, Sharon Smith, Mary Wilhite, Yvonne Gilliam, Glora Ann Click, Janalee Arnold.

Recently, members of Sigma Pi Gamma have been gathering ideas for their spring program, and pledging activities. Pledge captains Donna Tolbert and Carolanne Bell have promised an interesting week.

GAMMAS GREET NEW PLEDGES WITH SOCIAL

Sigma Pi Gamma greeted eight pledges last Friday at a 10:30 a.m. social in Norma Wade's room in Marilyn Hall. Purple and white decorations gave a festive appearance to the occasion along with a lavender and white cake and lavender punch.

Gamma pledges are easily recognized on campus by their white pleated skirts and lavender overblouses. They also carry the traditional "happy apples" and wear signs asking if they may help anyone.

Women welcomed into the campus club include: Jolene Creed, Nelia Butler, Robyn Winn, Shari Brittain, Patti Downs, Darlene Adam, Mary Wilhite and Sharon Fitzpatrick.

Formal presentation of the pledges is planned for the near future. Informal initiation will take place tonight, after which a short social is planned to conclude the week of pledging.

Spring Sing rehearsals are well underway reports Donna Tolbert, chairman of the production. Japan will be represented by the group.

Future plans include socials, intramurals and the final Spring Banquet.

SIGMA PI GAMMA INITIATE PLEDGES

Beginning a busy week, the Gammas welcomed their new members in a formal initiation Sunday night. The candlelight ceremony was held at the alumni house.

New members are Shari Brittain, Jolene Creed, Mary Wilhite, Patti Downs, Nelia Butler, Sharon Fitzpatrick, Darlene Adam and Robyn Winn.

A social was held at Chalons after church Wednesday night.

Planning, rehearsing and building sets are regular activities of the Gamma until Spring Sing.

Ann Harding was congratulated on being a new member of Alpha Gammas.

GAMMAS BUSY WITH PROJECTS

Spring Sing, Susie Sorority and Orchid Day top the Gamma agenda for this week.

Bev Muller was chosen to represent the sorority in the second annual Susie Sorority Contest.

Donna Miller and Shari Brittain were chosen to participate in the Maypole ceremony and Linda Leslie and Mary Wilhite were chosen to represent Gammas in the Orchid May Queen Court.

The girls are now busy sewing their costumes for the coming Spring Sing.

GAMMAS WIN "SING" HONOR

Sigma Pi Gamma, after receiving the third place award in Spring Sing, ventured to Chalon's to celebrate.

Apple Valley Inn is the site of the Gammas Spring Banquet to be held May 14. Tennis, swimming, Ping-Pong, horseback riding are a few of the activities scheduled for that day.

May 29, is the day set for the Gammas Fashion Show at the Marlton Building. The show is an annual money-raising affair and tickets will be on sale soon.

Gamma Alumni June Falls Bray announced the birth of an eight pound eleven ounce baby girl born April 14. Congratulations were extended to the proud parents.

GAMMA BEACH PARTY TONIGHT

Members of Sigma Pi Gamma and dates will venture to Playa del Rey for a beach party (if the weather permits) tonight. If weather is bad roller-skating and a social afterward at Sid Shue's apartment will be held.

At a special meeting held last Tuesday, Gammas made plans and arrangements for their banquet May 14. Favors were chosen and pledges were asked to entertain at the banquet.

The annual Gamma Fashion Show to be held May 29, at the Marlton Building in the Crenshaw Shopping district will feature Gamma models and clothes from the merchants in that area. The fashion show will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 29. Proceeds will go to some charitable organization.

At the Gamma meeting next Thursday, Gammas will announce their new sponsor and also held elections for next year's officers.

GAMMAS HOST BEACH PARTY

For once the weatherman was correct in his forecast of last Saturday night's weather and 16 Gammas and dates trekked to Playa del Rey for a beach party.

Those seen enjoying the sand, moon, volleyball, hot dogs and lots and lots of singing were: Rosella Koontz and John Gash, Carolanne Bell and Herman Whitfield, Jan Nickerson and Ron Beaman, Norma Wade and Ken Young, Donna Miller and Dave Beavers, Donna Tolbert and Otis Falls.

Nelia Butler and Ken Storms, Sue Huff and Terry Giboney, Sharon Fitzpatrick and Tim Tift, Diane Kopan and Sid Shue, Ellen Boros and Jack Brandt, Joan McGee and Jerry Fuller, Darlene Adam and David Rice, Mary Wilhite and Al Campbell, Shari Brittain and Maurice Meredith, and Bev Muller and Ralph Harrison.

The big news in the Gamma quarters is the announcement of their new sponsors. The co-sponsorship will be shared by Mrs. James Lovell, wife of the board of trustees member, and Mrs. Grey, psychology teacher here at Pepperdine. The sponsors will be officially installed at the coming spring banquet.

Patti Downs and Jolene Creed recently passed chocolates at a Gamma meeting to announce their respective engagements to Ron Dalberg and pinning to Dillard Harwell.

The girls are busy planning the spring banquet to be held May 14.

GAMMAS TREK TO VALLEY INN

Tomorrow morning, 22 Gammas and dates will leave for the Apple Valley Inn, site of their annual spring presents banquet. The day will be filled with swimming, golfing, tennis, horseback riding and will conclude with the banquet in the evening.

At the conclusion of the dinner the new officers will be named and the Gamma of the Year will be announced. Following the presentation of new officers and the presentation of new members, the new members will present thirty minutes of entertainment.

Last Tuesday, Gammas gave June Falls Bray, Gamma alumnae, a baby shower and presented her with a stroller for the new baby, Deborah Elaine.

An installation for the new sponsors, Mrs. Loren Grey and Mrs. James Lovell, will be held Wednesday, May 25. Jolene Creed, Sharon Fitzpatrick and Mary Wilhite are in charge of the installation ceremony.

Gamma president, Diane Kopan, announced at the last meeting that she has been accepted to the University of Paris.

GAMMAS ANNOUNCE CLUB OFFICERS

Gammas and dates arrived at Apple Valley Inn last Saturday to spend the day in various activities, climaxed by the banquet that evening.

New officers were presented. They are: Norma Wade, president; Joan McGee, vice-president; Darlene Adam, secretary; Jan Nickerson, treasurer; Carolanne Bell, historian; Robyn Winn, chaplain; Donna Tolbert, sergeant-at-arms; and Rosella Koontz, intramural manager.

Gamma of the year honors were won by Joan McGee.

The spring pledge class was formally presented and provided the entertainment featuring songs, a soft shoe routine, piano duet, pantomime, and an original poem recalling pledge week.
